Brain Injury Conference

On February 24, 2012, Naveen Jain spoke at the Brain Injury Conference in Santa Clara, CA. Below is a brief summary of his speech:

“My initial interest in the brain comes from the angle of education. Often, it’s the same child who can solve some of the most complex problems in a video game who struggles in school. If we are going to reinvent the education system, we have to know how the brain learns, processes information and retains information. Imagine an education system that is as effective as a private tutor and as engaging as a video game. Imagine our kids saying ‘dad, mom, can’t I just study for one more hour?”

The brain is a fascinating organ that we need to protect and safeguard at all costs. In American football we aren’t taking brain injuries as seriously as we need to. I am concerned that our culture doesn’t put enough emphasis on protecting the brain, especially in active sports like football and soccer. We need to protect our children. This is why I got involved in a documentary which discusses the idea of brain injury as part of this sport, football, that America loves so much. This documentary, of which I am Executive Producer, discusses how brain injuries have affected people’s lives and how serious they can be. This story needs to be told and I feel that a film is the best way to tell a story. Let’s join together to protect our children and to make this sport we love safer.”
